Europe to South-East Asia in 2 weeks without planes?

It's possible!

About

This site aims to provide a free, practical guide on travelling by public transport (trains where possible) from Europe through Asia, all the way to Indonesia. It’s been great to see many overland travelling influencers popping up, showing the joys of overland travel. However, I found a lack of really practical information from route details & border crossings to visa’s, ticket bookings and so much more. There are quite some good webistes/forums available on certain parts of the way, but it was still quite some work to put the puzzle pieces together. That’s the gap this site is trying to fill!

Don’t let the title mislead you: I picked it because I found many people having an interest in getting to South-East Asia quickly without planes, but that definitely doesn’t mean you should skip the countries in between (or even limit your trip to those)!

A lot of the information is based on personal research and experience. Any additional information or updates are greatly appreciated and will be added shortly. Please send them via the contact form or email. Feedback is very welcome too!

Whether you’re looking for more sustainable travel, meeting locals or just having a real adventure, travelling overland has many advantages. There is something about turning up in a random place as a foreigner that often makes those ‘in-between’ places the most unforgettable. From interviews with the national news about what the hell you’re doing there to hours spent on a train talking to a complete stranger, anything can happen.

Perhaps it’s just the romanticsim of railway, but spending hours in a train reading, seeing the landscape change from the most vast deserts to high peaks or lush forests while eating sunflower seeds from fellow passengers can be incredibly relaxing.

Why overland?

Is it safe?
